Great Lakes TURN Labor-Management Collaboration Conference May 2016

Dear Great Lakes TURN Colleague,

Our next Great Lakes TURN event is scheduled for May 5-6, 2016 at the Doubletree Suites by Hilton Hotel & Conference Center Chicago-Downers Grove, 2111 Butterfield Road, Downers Grove, IL 60515. Our conference will focus on Renewing Our Profession: Creating Conditions that Empower & Engage All Learners Toward Excellence. We will continue to collaboratively examine ways to plan and integrate the implementation of rigorous and challenging student learning and teaching standards, practices and programs. We will also explore new approaches in developing conditions for effective teaching and learning. Our agenda will feature local, state and national examples of promising practices, emerging case studies, and policies that focus on this joint work.

Our GL TURN teams represent union & teacher leaders, school & district administrators and board members who are working jointly to plan and implement teacher evaluation systems and college and career ready standards to improve teaching and learning. We continue to encourage and support our GL TURN teams to jointly develop, implement and share their efforts. In an effort to work more effectively with teams to develop action plans in order to facilitate the work in our school communities, we have changed the format of this conference to include an afternoon Team Planning & Consultation session on the afternoon of the second day of the conference. Teams interested in planning time with CEC consultants must register for this session separately by contacting Laura Sestak at laura.sestak@cecillinois.org.

Our GL TURN locals are encouraged to invite representatives from their district and school administration, boards of education and community leaders to join their teams for this two-day forum. Our conference will begin at 8:30 am on Thursday, May 6 and will conclude by 12:00 pm on Friday, May 6. The Team Planning & Consultation session will begin at 12:30pm on Friday and conclude at 3:30pm.

HOTEL RESERVATIONS: A block of rooms is being held at the Doubletree Suites by Hilton Hotel & Conference Center Chicago-Downers Grove for GL TURN participants at a rate of $112, plus taxes & fees per room, per night based on single or double occupancy. To guarantee room accommodations at this rate, you must make your hotel reservations by April 13, 2016 by phoning 1-800-HILTONS and requesting rooms in the GL TURN room block.

REGISTRATION FEES:

Great Lakes TURN Conference only: $100 registration fee per person, which includes breakfast on both days and lunch and a social hour on day one.

Great Lakes TURN Conference plus the Team Planning & Consultation Session: $120 registration fee per person, which includes breakfast and lunch on both days and a social hour on day one.
